Merino wool is known to be a favourite material of many outdoor enthusiasts. Known for its quality, softness, and ability to regulate temperature, this highly versatile yarn is an ideal yarn choice when looking to combine luxury with high performance.

Harvested from Merino sheep roaming the high mountains of New Zealand, this naturally occurring and renewable resource has grown in popularity across a wide range of active apparel.

Merino wool provides a host of practical and environmental benefits. Known for being a fabric that keeps you warm during those colder days and regulating temperature and helping to wick moisture away from the body on those warmer days.

This highly breathable yarn is also extremely durable. With its naturally occurring elastic and antibacterial properties, Merino is an excellent choice for socks. The material properties mean the wool will retain its shape and form for longer and with the ability to prevent odour build-up, they will require less frequent washing helping to cut down on water consumption.

As a brand, we have a choice about the yarns we use and the decision about how this is sourced. For us, the question of where our merino wool comes from, and how it is harvested, is just as important as the quality of the material.

We have chosen to only work with Bluesign yarn suppliers who abide by our specific values and guidelines. In line with this, all our merino wool is Woolmark accredited, OEKO-TEX® 100 certified and part of the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS).

We also only source 100% guaranteed non-mulesed wool. Mulesing is a painful procedure where skin is removed from around the backside of the sheep. This practice is done to prevent flystrike which lay their larvae in the wool resulting in damage to the wool. In reality however, the procedure is brutal, extremely cruel, and often results in sheep that have been mulesed still suffering from flystrike and enduring a long and painful death.

This is only the start of our Journey. In 2020, we will be increasing our transparency as we drive towards more sustainable and ethical options across our entire supply chain.
